An MS Access syllabus covers database fundamentals, creation, and management using Microsoft Access, including database objects (tables, forms, queries, reports), data handling (data types, relationships, importing/exporting), and user interface design (forms, reports)Key topics include designing tables, writing queries with criteria, creating forms and reports using wizards and design views, and establishing relationships between tables to manage data effectively. 
 
I. Database Fundamentals & Access Overview 
 
  • Introduction to Databases: 
    Understanding what a database is, the concept of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), and the differences between flat-file and relational databases.
  • MS Access Introduction: 
    An overview of the Microsoft Access interface, its uses, and its role in database management.
II. Database Objects & Design 
 
  • Creating and modifying tables in Design View.
  • Relationships:
    Creating relationships between tables (one-to-one, one-to-many) to link data effectively.
III. Data Management & Querying
  • Data Entry & Manipulation: 
    Adding data to tables and basic data organization like sorting, searching, and filtering. 
     
    • Querying data to select records and perform calculations. 
       
    • Creating queries using the Query Wizard and SQL view. 
       
    • Using query criteria, parameter queries, and creating action queries (Update, Append, Delete queries). 
       
    • Using wizards for finding duplicate or unmatched queries. 
       
IV. User Interface Design
    • Creating various types of forms (Columnar, Tabular, Datasheet) using the Form Wizard or from scratch. 
       
    • Adding and resizing objects, controls (like combo boxes), headers, and footers. 
       
    • Creating main/sub forms for complex data entry. 
       
    • Creating and formatting reports using the Report Wizard or Design View. 
       
    • Adding page headers, footers, sorting, and grouping data. 
       
    • Creating reports from single or multiple tables. 
       
V. Advanced & Utility Functions
  • Data Import & Export: Importing data from other sources and exporting Access data into different file formats. 
     
  • Macros: Using macros to automate repetitive tasks. 
     
  • Indexing: Understanding how to use indexing to improve query performance. 
     
  • Switchboards: Creating switchboards for a user-friendly navigation system.
